ATEX Laboratory Refrigerators

for the safe storage of chemical samples which may form an explosive atmosphere

CHL ATEX are specialized laboratory refrigerators designed for the safe storage of chemical samples that may create an explosive atmosphere. They are designed in accordance with the requirements of ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU, for environments classified as Zone 2.

The refrigerator chamber is made explosion-proof and marked as II 3/- G Ex h IIC T6 Gc/-. It features non-sparking components and explosion-proof construction of the Ex h type, compliant with the EN ISO 80079-36 standard, which eliminates potential ignition sources under normal operating conditions.

The chamber construction has been developed to minimize the risk of ignition and explosion, in accordance with the requirements of ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU and the relevant harmonized standards. This is a key element in ensuring safety in explosion-hazardous zones, which – according to ATEX Directive 1999/92/EC – must be defined by the employer in the workplace risk assessment.

CHL ATEX (Ex) Laboratory Refrigerators: Safe Storage of Samples that May Create an Explosive Atmosphere

CHL ATEX devices feature explosion-proof (Ex) chambers II 3/- G Ex h IIC T6 Gc/- in accordance with ATEX directive markings.

Label of CHL ATEX laboratory refrigerator

Key Safety Features (according to the ATEX label):

  • II: device intended for all explosion-hazardous areas except underground mines (Group II)
  • 3/-: category applies only to the interior of the refrigerator chamber, meeting category 3 requirements for zone 2 explosive atmospheres.
“/-” means that the device’s exterior is not intended for operation in explosive hazard zones.
  • G: type of explosive atmosphere – gas
  • Ex: explosion-proof design, in accordance with ATEX Directive (2014/34/EU) and relevant standards
  • h: non-electrical device, the interior of the refrigerator chamber is protected by constructional safety “c” in accordance with EN ISO 80079-36
  • IIC: gas explosion group, device approved for operation in the presence of highly explosive gases such as hydrogen or acetylene
  • T6: device temperature class – the interior of the cooling chamber is safe for substances with an auto-ignition temperature of at least 85 °C
  • Gc/-: Protection level of the device chamber (EPL Gc) according to the Ignition Hazard Assessment. Ensures safe operation of the chamber interior in a zone 2 gas explosive atmosphere. The symbol “/-” means that the exterior of the device has no assigned EPL and is not intended for use in Ex zones.

Operating Range and Precision:

CHL ATEX laboratory refrigerators with explosion-proof chambers feature a cooling system with forced air circulation, ensuring stable and uniform conditions inside the chamber. They allow sample storage within a temperature range of 0 °C to +15 °C. The device is controlled by a precise SMART controller, guaranteeing high stability and uniformity of the set temperature.

The CHL ATEX (Ex) laboratory refrigerator with an explosion-proof chamber is a reliable and safe solution for storing samples that may create an explosive atmosphere.
